Who We Are and What We Do
Background: Over the last ten years, more and more Africans, both men and women, mainly from Eritrea and Sudan, have left their home countries primarily to escape political, religious and/or humanitarian persecution. Suppression and rapacity have often made it impossible to get gainful employment in the home country, so in some cases, people leave in search of paid work. Often, these migrant refugees seek to get to Israel for freedom, but after being passed from one trafficking group to another, some eventually end up in the clutches of certain shameless groups in the Sinai of Egypt, in one of several facilities not far from the Egyptian-Israeli border. There, these people extort funds by torturing the refugee into revealing names and numbers of relatives and friends in other countries, who then send money to supposedly have the refugee released. Some, who are no longer of value for cash payment, are chosen for extraction of organs for sale to private hospitals and transplant clinics in Cairo. Many refugees who make it to the Israeli border are captured, and some are shot by Egyptian security forces, and end up in prison, the hospital, or the morgue. This includes those who leave the torture camps... either dead or alive.
Formation of NGF: A former business man who presently runs a language institute in Al Arish, North Sinai, decided to devote his time and resources to helping these refugees. He is Mr Hamdy Ahmed Al-Azazy. After studying issues and needs of universal human rights under Dr Ellen Rosser of California, USA, Mr Hamdy registered his new effort as a humanitarian organization -- as New Generation Foundation for Human Rights With the help of two assistants, and through relationships with government officials, Mr Hamdy, as Chairman of New Generation Foundation has been able to apply assistance to refugees in the Sinai where others do not routinely go, at prisons and hospitals.
